One of the community choruses I used to accompany in Rhode Island had a "Sing for your supper" event every spring. We would gather together at a post-season party celebrating the performances. After going through all the details about ticket sales and clapping (again) for all the people who did solos during the concerts, we would have a talent show.

Some people sang. Some people did comedy. Some people played the piano. I played something I wrote a couple of times.

I could imagine a casual, non-threatening, no-judgment environment like that to be the perfect place to showcase someone's new and developing talent as a pianist.

It's situations like that full of (mostly) non-professional musicians of varying ability who are just having fun that are perfect for trying out your piano performing chops. I promise you, the talent presented is of varying quality and sometimes mistakes are part of the joy.

If there are mistakes, there is laughter - of the right kind. Because in a community group like that, everyone knows they are a team. And we all need to learn to not take ourselves too seriously.

Would you ever perform in a low-key situation like that?

Where else do you want to play?

Do you only want to play in your living room for yourself to hear? Do you want to play with your grandkids? Do you want to play at church? Or at a Christmas party with friends?

Whatever it is you want to do, I can get you there.

I have done all of these (except playing with grandkids - I don't have any of those yet!)

You don't have to be a concert pianist or even an advanced pianist to begin finding fulfillment in playing meaningful music!

In addition to over 70 original works in The Music Hub, I also include arrangements of folk songs, like

  • Shenandoah
  • 900 Miles
  • Sakura, Sakura
  • Wayfaring Stranger
  • And many, many more!

I also incorporate hymns, Christmas carols, Blues tunes, and very easy classical pieces.

You will find something you love to play inside The Music Hub!

The Music Hub will help you

  • Read music fluently
  • Play with both hands together
  • Play in multiple positions on the keyboard (not just in one spot or one key.)
  • Play with feeling (dynamics and articulation)
  • Understand sharps and flats
  • Understand intervals and chords
  • Understand fingerings

The learning continues on, too. When you are done with the Piano Accelerator Levels 1&2, you will be able to learn scales and chords and how to read lead sheets. Plus, there are modules for additional genres of music!

New lessons are added every month!

There are two ways to join:

Option 1: Video Lessons and Group Sessions

($60 USD/mo, $575 USD/yr)

Option 2: Video Lessons, Group Sessions PLUS one (30-minutes) online private lesson each month

($100 USD/mo, $960 USD/yr)

Remember, when you join, your tuition will never go up for as long as you remain an active member!

Tuition rates increase for new members on September 1, so now is the time to join at this lowest, founding-member price!

It's August, and that means school has started up once again! I am almost through my first two weeks already, and they have flown by! This semester, I am teaching four classes: two sections of Fundamentals of Music Theory, an introductory theory class; one section of Music Theory I, and one section of a gen-ed music appreciation class covering (somehow) all 1500 years of Western classical music in one semester. This summer, I've been reading a biography of Giuseppe Verdi by Mary Jane...

Notes from The Music Hub August 24, 2026 Notation Errors in Simply Piano I've been reading a lot of reviews of Simply Piano lately, because of course it pertains to my work. I'll be frank. I know that I am asking you to join a comparatively pricey membership with a live teacher when there are cheap apps on the market. So, I have to try and see what they offer. Does an app that uses audio technology to detect errors in your playing help you learn piano? Sure, sort of. I am not willing to spend...
