My music-theory based approach to learning piano is the most effective way to make real progress.

It helps you

  • read music fluently
  • play with both hands together
  • understand rhythm
  • use fingering that makes sense

I provide video instruction of music theory concepts as well as detailed demonstration videos of each song, with an overhead view so you can see exactly where I place my fingers. I talk you through the whole piece, through the rhythms, explain the structure of the piece and the whys behind things like fingering.

The video lessons allow you to progress on your own time and at your own pace.

But you also have access to a real, live teacher through weekly "piano labs" which are essentially office hours where you can drop in, ask questions, and get help.

That means you are never left on your own to figure it out when you get stuck!

This combination of theory instruction, song demonstration, and live help gives the best combination for learning at a fraction of the price of private lessons.

I have given private lessons for decades, and I can testify that it is extremely difficult to cover all this important material in even 1hr lessons every week. The weather has been crazy here in NC. Every county in the state has been in an extreme or severe drought for some time, with water use restrictions everywhere. Well, the rain finally came.
