Free Mini Course on Improving Note Reading

I put a lot of emphasis on note reading. I have written about this several times.

It's not because I think note reading is the only way to learn music.

However, I do think it is the most efficient and gives you the most freedom for learning whatever music in whatever style you want to learn.

Some of you may have already started learning piano on your own. Some of you may have learned the letter names of the notes.

How is it going?

Are you able to read music smoothly, or are you stopping at each note trying to figure out the letter name before proceeding?

Can your fingers anticipate which keys they will hit when your eyes see the notes on the page? Or are you continually hitting random notes when you try to sight read?

Do you know the five types of musical movement: static, oblique, parallel, contrary and similar? Being able to see this movement in the music will help you coordinate your hands more easily!

Do you know what intervals are and how to recognize the sizes of intervals in the music? Recognizing these shapes will help your fingers know how far apart they need to be on the keyboard.

All of these skills will help you become a better music reader.

If you have been reading music, but aren't familiar with the concepts I mentioned above, my mini course will fill in the gaps!

Additionally, these videos will give you a taste of how I present theory concepts in The Music Hub as well as insight into how understanding theory can help you be a better pianist!

When you sign up for the mini course, you will be sent an email with the link and password to access the videos and worksheets.

Notes from The Music Hub June 8, 2026 Major Scales are the Foundation of Western Music In my opinion, which is based in a lot of personal experience and observation, learning music theory is the best way to learn piano - and music in general - more quickly. This is because you learn the building blocks of how music is put together and you are able to recognize patterns that show up from piece to piece. While every piece is different, they all have similar inherent structures. Kind of like how...
